  • WELCOME TO SFV ROCKS!

The San Fernando Valley is an amazing place filled with rich culture and history! SFV ROCKS was created out of my love for this very diverse and beautiful valley.

Featured Site: Campo de Cahuenga Museum Est. 1950

Located at: 3919 Lankershim Blvd, Studio City

This is where California’s future changed. The original adobe ranch house on this spot is where Lt. Col. John C. Frémont and General Andrés Pico signed the Treaty of Cahuenga on January 13, 1847. That agreement ended the fighting in California during the Mexican-American War.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo followed in 1848, ceding California to the U.S. On September 9, 1850, California became the 31st state.

From 1858 to 1861, Campo de Cahuenga served as a Butterfield stage stop. The original adobe was demolished in 1900. The City of LA purchased the land in 1923, and a Mission Revival/Spanish Colonial replica was built, led by Irene T. Lindsey of the SFV Historical Society. It was dedicated November 2, 1950.

Today the Campo is managed by LA City Rec & Parks with the Campo De Cahuenga Historical Memorial Association. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places, CA Landmark No. 151, and LA Monument No. 29.

During Metro B Line construction, crews found the original adobe foundations under Lankershim Blvd. Part is preserved as an exhibit here — and the street has decorative pavement marking the “footprint.” (source: Campo De Cahuenga)
